Historical Background:
Lavallette's history goes back to February 1878 when the directors of the Barnegat Land Improvement Company submitted a plot plan to Ocean County, designating their acquired land from Michael W. Ortley as "Lavallette City by the Sea." The name pays tribute to U.S. Navy Admiral Elie A. F. LaVallette, known for his service in the Battle of Lake Champlain and commanding the U.S.S. Constitution. The town has a unique quality due to the presence of multi-generational families, and each street has its own beach entrance, fostering a sense of community.
