The Ridgewood News: Village Resident Trades Rock N' Roll For Real Estate
Ridgewood's Matthew Mastrangelo traded in rock n' roll for real estate with a pitstop at the Playboy Mansion along the way. When he originally appeared in the April 2012 issue of (201), Mastrangelo was publisher of the legendary "Rolling Stone" magazine. His biggest task at the time was getting readers and advertisers to support the publication across multiple platforms. A few years later, he faced similar challenges when he worked at another famous publication, "Playboy." After spending time consulting, Mastrangelo started his next chapter as a real estate agent and CRO for Christina Gibbons Group | Christie's International Real Estate.
Working for "Playboy"
After my publishing stint at "Rolling Stone," I was recruited in 2014 by Playboy Enterprises and was appointed Senior VP, Chief Revenue Officer. At the time, "Playboy" operated on a predominantly print level. My role was to lead a national team while transitioning the brand to run across multiple revenue streams by creating innovative integrated advertising and sponsorship opportunities across "Playboy's" print, digital media, and event platforms. The restructuring of the brand was a huge success, and the company went public as PLBY Group, Inc. in 2021.
Consulting
While my experience at Playboyu was incredible, I also yearned for quality time with my family and pursuing passions outside of work, and I decided it was time to take a break. I started consulting in advertising and marketing for small, early-stage companies and private wealth managers, partnering With high-net-worth individuals to expand and grow a small hedge fund: At the same time, my wife, Tina, and I planned many trips, primarily visiting our oldest son, Morgan at Northwestern University and our daughter Julia at the University of Miami.
Supporting Broadway
In addition to getting everything we could out of Chicago and Miami, we went to Italy for a few weeks with our youngest son Rowan, where we explored and saw Morgan performing in an opera program. Having a son who is a professional singer reignited my passion for music and theater, so I decided to invest in several musicals as they made their way to the Broadway stage. One of those shows, "The Neil Diamond Musical - A Beautiful Noise," had its Broadway premiere this past December, and I'm working on two others in development.
Real Estate
Since our youngest son Rowan is now a senior in high school and on his way to Syracuse University in the fall, I began to spend more time locally. Thirty-five years after being involved in real estate transactions and sales in New York City, I reignited my love for real estate and business. In September of 2022, I got my real estate license and joined one of New Jersey's top teams, Christina Gibbons Group | Christie's International Real Estate. In many ways, this was a full-circle moment for me, as I was involved in various real estate transactions and renovation projects in New York City in the early '90s. I look forward to continuing this exciting new venture and working with the group to expand our business and provide the highest level of service and sales expertise to Bergen County and beyond.
